Continental Light 42mm Presta Valve Tube

  1. These Conti’s are great – the presta valve does not stick (as in some cheaper tubes), they are easy to “pre-inflate” when changing a tire and they last.
  2. I’m into endurance cycling and ride about 165 miles a week on all types of roads, including gravel.
  3. Your tube’s ability to resist punctures depends greatly on the quality of the tires that encases it.
  4. I’d rather make up the extra weight of a bullet proof tire on a quality light tube than spend my time changing one on the side of the road in 100° heat.
  5. Biggest risk of a flat with these is going to be a pinch if you are running lower air pressures otherwise, a very dependable tube.
  6. Continental’s website shows these Race 28 Lights should weigh 60g, but they’re definitely heavier than 60g.
  7. I had an old set of Kenda tubes that weighed 88g, and I see a lot of comparable tubes in this size range weigh about the same with exceptions for latex or super light tubes.
  8. I was having issues with a less expensive tube brand and needed something that would hold up to the horrible road conditions in the Northeast.
  9. These have lasted longer riding the same roads with the the same tires/wheels.
  10. I have not gotten a pinch flat since I switched the Continentals.
  11. One thing i like is that the rubber doesn’t stick together as you unroll them.
  12. They seem to have a powder or film that keeps them from sticking.
  13. I think this helps keep them from sticking to the tire during road side repairs.
  14. Actually they are the most protective lights I have ever ridden on, and when a rider does suffer a flat, they are very compatible with glue and patch kits.
  15. I road on one tube which had suffered three flats with glued on patches for over a thousand miles of riding until a chunk of jagged marble countertop pierced through my gatorskin tire and gashed it big time!
  16. Made the mistake of buying a pair of cheap tubes at a bicycle shop at an out of town race and the cheap tube lasted no time at all.
  17. They are light weight and fold up nicely in a saddle pack.
  18. I really like the smooth stem which makes getting the pump off very easy.
  19. I ride Continental 4000S tires which I think protect them very well.
  20. You can get cheaper tubes, but these are worth the bit extra in my opinion, especially if you shop around or get them on sale.
  21. When you unscrew the plastic valve cover the entire valve assembly unscrews .
  22. And the tube exploded on the first time I tried to pump air.
  23. Conti makes a reliable, fairly puncture-resistant tube.

Continental Light 60mm Presta Valve Tube

  1. If you’re running high-end race tires on lightweight wheels, the Continental Race Light Tube completes the trifecta.
  2. It’s for road bike, and it fits 700×18-25cc, presta valve.
  3. Continental tubes are nice and thin so they are easier to install than some of the more generic brand tubes.
  4. I’ve had nothing but good luck using these and think they’re worth the extra bucks.
  5. Besides the weight it’s hard to tell if it was worth spending the extra money.
  6. I tried using cheaper alternatives for my spares but they didn’t last long.
  7. While I find I have to be more conscious of pinches when installing the lights as long as I pay attention I’ve had no issues.
  8. I think these tubes are great, BUT the quality control is, ahem, somewhat lacking.
  9. I bought two of these and both tubes blew out when inflating for the first time (80 psi)!
  10. Both went on without any problem but within minutes of pumping to 100psi, one let go!
